ITEM 6.0— SAFEGUARD NORTH HIGHWALL AND SITE GRADING
A HIGH PRESSURE GAS PIPELINE RUNS APPROXIMATELY FIFTY FEET(50FT)TO THE NORTH OF THE
HIGHWALL.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANY PORTION OF THE NORTH HIGHWALL BE EXCAVATED OR
INTENTIONALLY COLLAPSED TO PROVIDE FILL MATERIAL OR ACHIEVE THE REQUIRED GRADE.
The CONTRACTOR will safeguard an estimated four hundred linear feet (400 Lf) of highwall that
ranges between eight to twenty feet (8 to 20 ft) in height (See attached Site Plan). Approximately
5,100 cy of fill material will be required. The highwall will be safeguarded by backfilling with onsite
materials against the existing highwall to achieve a minimum slope with three feet of horizontal
distance for every one foot of fall (3h:1v slope). Fill material shall be placed in two foot (2ft) lifts and
compacted with mechanical compaction techniques approved by the PROJECT MANAGER.
Thorough compaction shall consist of a minimum of two (2)passes with a CAT D6 dozer(or approved
equivalent) over all areas so that the marks overlap one another. Equipment shall be tracked forward
in a single pass perpendicular to the slope and return along the same path.
Five onsite stockpiles containing an estimated seven thousand two hundred five cubic yards (7,205
cy) of fill material are identified in the attached Site Plan. These stock piles may be utilized as fill
material for the completion of Task 6. In the event that a stockpile is only partially utilized then any
disturbed portions of the stockpile must be graded to achieve a maximum 3h:1v slope and
revegetated in accordance with Item 8.1 of the project specifications.
Table 1 - Estimated Stockpile Volumes
Stock Pile Volume (cy) Distance to North
Highwall (ft)
A 3250 400
B 2400 475
C 480 450
D 200 500
E 125 200
F 750 400
Total 7205
Please note these figures are estimates and the CONTRACTOR is responsible for verifying all
estimates prior to bid submittal. No outside fill or organic matter shall be utilized for backfill or site
grading unless approved by the PROJECT MANAGER.
Final grade elevations must be approved by the PROJECT MANAGER before revegetation begins.
Measurement and Payment
No measurement for payment shall be made for safeguarding the highwall and site grading. Payment
will be lump sum for item 6.0 on the Bid Schedule. The price bid for Item 6.0 will cover all costs for
completing the activities required under this Task. Payment shall be as this task is completed and
approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for all
Page 12 of 16
