South Hinsdale Response to Objections
12 July 2022
The mining plan already includes strict limits on days and hours of operation, as discussed
with concerned persons by the Texers and the preparer. As discussed in item (1) above,
materials are needed during the construction season, which includes the traditional
summer season you suggest for no traffic. See Section 5.3
Objections:
(1) Objection: traffic—constant stream of trucks (noise and dust) See Section 5.3
(2) Objection: air quality— dust haze due to extreme drought conditions See Section 5.8
3.33 Julie Wyrick and Sharon Mooney
2001 Taylor Lane#54
List of one (1) suggestion, one (1) claim, and eight (8) objections.
Suggestions:
(1) Suggestion: place gravel pit on public land (USFS) See Section 5.1 This is not allowed
by Federal law for National Forest System lands (USFS).
Claims:
(1) Claim: "not be unlike placing a gravel pit in the middle of downtown Lake City" See
Sections 5.1 and 5.9. Note: although we do not know of any current operations in or near
Lake City, gravel pits have operated for limited periods within 1-2 miles of Lake City. This
project is a half-mile from the nearest residence (other than the Texers) nearly 1 mile from
the next, and about 1.5 miles from the nearest non-ranch-based business (the
campground on the north end of Taylor Lane.
Objections:
(1) Objection: general — negative impact on residents and ecosystem See Sections 5.4,
5.5, and 5.9
(2) Objection: wildlife — deer, Albert's squirrel, chipmunks, birds (hummingbirds, stellar
jays, and woodpeckers) See Sections 4.2 and 5.6
(3) Objection: noise — impact driving wildlife deep into the forest See Section 5.7 The
proposed operation is not located in a wooded or forest area and is approximately 500
feet away from any significant stand of trees. Other mining locations in similar terrain and
ecological settings have found that wildlife are not driven away from their operations.
(4) Objection: air quality— impact driving wildlife deep into the forest See Section 5.6 and
5.8
(5) Objection: general —noise, dust, truck traffic See Section 5.3
(6) Objection: economic— negative impact on value of our property See Section 5.9
(7) Objection: economic — negative impact on economy of South End — visitors in the
middle of a construction zone will go elsewhere See Section 5.9. Unfortunately for the
traveling public, including visitors, and local people, we all must continuously drive through
massive construction zones and generally put up with the inconvenience. In mountainous
terrain, roads and bypasses/detours are very limited. Consider the wildlife crossing work
near the SH-160/SH-151 intersection, the "Bridge to Nowhere"at Grandview, Wolf Creek
Pass over the last 15-20 years and this year, and the realignment and rebuilding of SH-
550 between Durango and the Stateline.
5182-22-003 WASTELINE, INC.
