South Hinsdale Response to Objections
12 July 2022
(3)Objection: will destroy"natural beauty and many adventure paths that Pagosa Springs
has to offer." See Section 5.4.2. We are unaware of any "adventure paths"that exist in the
9.4 acre area proposed to be affected, which is private property.
3.29 Jim and Kathy Tubbesing
List of two (2) claims and two (2) objections.
Claims:
(1) Claim: location - no other towns/areas that have great scenic drives have gravel pits
right on those roads See Section 5.1.2 and 5.4.2 This is not correct.
(2) Claim: viewshed/traffic -gravel pit will completely destroy "the charm and character of
the Piedra Road" See Section 5.1, 5.2, and 5.4.2. Other commenters characterize the
"charm and character"as being dangerous, unsafe, and in need of rebuilding and constant
repair.
Objections
(1) Objection: traffic—"tremendous amount'—more congested than it is today See Section
5.3
(2) Objection: viewshed — completely change the look of Piedra Road for the worse See
Section 5.4.2 The proposed pit has about 700 feet of frontage on Piedra Road and may
probably be seen from up to 1-2 miles of the 25+ miles of road from Pagosa to Williams
Reservoir.
3.30 James Tubbesing Ryter
Repeated the comments of Section 3.29 Jim and Kathy Tubbesing virtually word for word.
See item 3.29 above for responses.
3.31 Jason Smith
Repeated the comments of Section 3.29 Jim and Kathy Tubbesing virtually word for word.
See item 3.29 above for responses.
3.32 Daniel Shaeffer
List of two (2) suggestions and two (2)objections.
Suggestions:
(1) Suggestion: limit all noisy operations to'off-season" with no activity between Memorial
Day and Labor Day See Sections 5.3 and 5.7. Thank you for this suggestion, which
unfortunately is not workable. First, mining is not feasible nor safe during the peak winter
months (Jan/Feb/Mar/early Apr) so this would limit operations to less than % the year.
Second, the construction projects and maintenance and repair of roads and other surfaces
is generally done during the summer months. Third, equipment and personnel(operators)
are tight and expected to be so for the life of this operation and therefore it may not be
possible to schedule in the short periods. As much as possible, the operation WILL try
and schedule the few weeks of actual crushing and screening to either May or
September/October; but loading and hauling cannot be so tightly scheduled.
(2) Suggestion: no truck traffic between Memorial Day and Labor Day or at minimum, limit
number of days per week and hours of operation Again, thank you for the suggestions.
5182-22-003 WAST£LINE, INC.
