2.01 Materials and Components
A. Metal Surfaces, General
For fabrication of miscellaneous metal work which will be exposed to view,
use only materials which are smooth and free of surface blemishes including
pitting, seam marks, roller marks, rolled trade names and roughness.
( B. Following references provide minimum standards as they apply to specific
items:

Structural Steel: ASTM A-36, A-440, A-501, A-575 or A108.
Cast Steel: ASTM A-27, Grade 65-35; and A-148, Grade 80-50.
~_ Steel Fotgings: ASTM A-235 and A-237.
i Rivet Steel: ASTM A-502
Bolts: ASTM A-307, A-325, A-354.
Filler Metal: ASTM A-233, E-60 or #-70 series.
Cast Iron: ASTM A-48, Class 30, Min. 30,000 psi tensile.
. Wrought Iron Bars: ASTM A-189, Grade A.
Wrought Iron Plates: ASTM A-42, Standard Plate.
Malleable Iron: ASTM A-47 and A-197.
(^ Steel Pipe: ASTM A-53.
Galvanizing: ASTM A-123, A-386, or A-525.
~• Copper: ASTM B-370 or B-248.
Brass: ASTM B-36.
Aluminum: ASTM B-308 for particular alloy in standard shapes and
extrusions, B-26 for castings.
Stainless Steel: ASTM A-484 and A276, Type 302.

i C. Masonry Anchorage Devices
`- Expansion shields complying with FF-S-325, as follows: Lead expansion
L shields for machine screws and bolts 1/4 inch and smaller; head-out
embedded nut type, single unit class, Group I, Type 1, Class 1, larger than
1/4 inch; Group I, Type 1, Class 2. Bolt anchor expansion shield for lag
bolts: zinc-alloy, long shield anchors class, Group II, Type 1, Class 1. Bolt
anchor expansion shields for bolts: closed-end bottom bearing class, Group
L II, Type 2, Class 1.
D. Fasteners
Provide zinc-coated fasteners for exterior use where bunt into exterior

Lag Bolts: Square head type, F. S. FF-8-561.
( Machine Screws: Cadmium plated steel, F.S. FF-S-92.
