• G. Steel Joints <br />1. Slots and inserts for anchoring mechanical items to concrete shall be <br />galvanized steel of standard manufacture and subject to approval by <br />the Engineer. <br />2. Plates, angles, and other structural shapes shall be galvanized steel <br />conforming to ASTM A36 and shall be accurately shaped at the shop. <br />PART 3 -EXECUTION <br />3.01 Installation <br />A. General <br />1. The joint materials shall be installed as indicated on the drawings and <br />shall be subject to the approval of the Engineer. <br />2. In no case shall the reinforcement, corner protection angles, or other <br />fixed metal items, embedded in or bonded into the concrete, be run <br />_ continuously through an expansion joint, unless shown on the <br />drawings. <br />• B. Open Joints <br />~' 1. Open joints shall be constructed by the insertion and subsequent <br />removal of wood strip, metal plate or other approved material. <br />2. The insertion and removal of the template shall be accomplished <br />J without chipping or breaking the corners of the concrete. <br />3. Reinforcement shall not extend across an open joint unless so <br />- specified on the drawings. <br />4. Edges of concrete adjacent to joints shall be finished to an <br />approximate radius of 1/8 inch or as shown on the drawings. <br />C. Control Joints (Expansion Joints) <br />1. Control joints shall be constructed as shown on the drawings. <br />a. Expansion joints between slabs on grade and vertical surfaces <br />- shall be pre-molded expansion joint filler strips. <br />b. Unless otherwise noted, expansion joints shall be 3/8" thick and <br />the full depth of the slab. <br />2. Pre-molded keyed filler strips shall be used. <br />3. When expanded rubber, PVC, or polyethylene filler is used, it shall be <br />attached to the first-placed side of the joint with an adhesive and the <br />concrete on the other side then placed against the fffler. <br />„„ ~~_., <br />
