4. Other types of pre-molded ft7ler shall not be attached by adhesives. • <br />5. Care shall be taken not to cause displacement or compression of the <br />filler. <br />6. A joint groove shall be formed 1" deep and 3/16" wide with a slightly <br />tapered, dressed and oiled wood strip tacked on top of the joint filler. <br />7. After curing, the wood strip shall be removed and the groove shall be <br />sealed. <br />S. Joints shall be free of cracked and spelled areas and their faces shall <br />be free of all foreign matter, curing compound, oils, greases and dirt. <br />9. Cold-applied sealer shall be used in conjunction wtih PVC, polyethy- <br />lene, and expended rubber fillers. Cold-applied sealer shall not be <br />used in conjunction with bituminous or asphaltic fillers. <br />10. Cold-applied sealer shall not be placed directly on the fffler, ¢ut shall <br />be prevented from bonding to the filler by a carefully placed strip o1' <br />suitable material placed over the filler. <br />11. Masking tape or other means shall be used to avoid spilling sealer <br />onto adjacent concrete surfaces. <br />12. Any excess sealer on adjacent surfaces shall be carefully cleaned off' • <br />before the material has set and without damaging the material in they <br />joint. <br />D. Steel Joints <br />1. Positive methods shall be employed in placing the joints to keep them <br />in correct position during the placing of the concrete so that the <br />opening at expansion joints shall be that designated on the Drawing:; <br />at normal temperature, and care shall be taken to avoid impairment: <br />of the clearance in any manner. <br />C 2. Unless otherwise own on the Drawings, normal temperature shall be <br />considered as 60 F. and correction to this temperature shall be <br />&omputed using a coefficient of expansion of 0.0000065 in. per in. per <br />F. <br />E. Waterstops <br />1. Waterstops shall be installed in all cold joints of concrete tanks or <br />structures designed to hold liquids and in any additional locations <br />requested by the Engineer, or indicated on the Drawings. <br />2. All waterstops shell be sized and installed in accordance with the <br />manufacturer's current recommendations. • <br />03150-3 <br />
