5. Broadcast seeding will be used on small areas with hydroseeding to be •
used on slopes steeper than 3H:1V.
6. Broadcast seeding will utilize a cyclone type broadcaster.
7. After broadcast seeding, the area will be conditioned by raking,
harrowing or spiked tooth cultipacker to insure proper seed coverai;e
with soil.
8. Broadcast seeding and conditioning operations will not be performed
during periods of excessive moisture in order to prevent excess com-
paction of the soil.
9, All seeding, drill, hydroseeding and broadcast will be conducted on
the contour to minimize erosion potential and increase soil moisture
retention.
B. Seeding
1. Prepared surfaces will be planted during the first normal period for
favorable planting either in early spring or late fall.
2. Permanent seed mixtures will be applied to all areas which will not be
redisturbed within 1 or 2 years as indicated by ARCO Coal Company, •
a division of Atlantic Richfield Company.
3. Temporary seed mixtures will be applied to all stockpiles after the
completion of construction and to all future building pads.
3.03
Mulching
A. General
1. Application of mulch will immediately follow seeding unless soil or
climatic conditions prohibit the operation.
2. Seeded areas will be mulched with native hay following drill seeding
or broadcast seeding. Crimping and tacking will be used to stabilize
the hay mulch if necessary.
3. Wood fiber mulch or a soil erosion blanket will be used when hydro-
seeding slopes steeper than 3H:IV.
B. Soil Erosion Blanket
Install soil erosion blanket following suppliers' recommendations.
C. Wood Cellulose Fiber •
1. Wood cellulose fiber mulch will be applied with a conventional hydro-
mulching/seeding machine.
2. An application rate of 1,500 pounds per acre shall be used for all
areas receiving this mulch.
