r <br />• C. Straw Mulch <br />r <br />~ 1. Straw mulch shall consist of straw or oats, barley, wheat or rye and <br />shall not contain seeds of noxious weeds. <br />2. Substitute material may be clean field or marsh hay. <br />3. Straw or hay in such an advanced stage of decomposition as to <br />smother or retard the normal growth of grass shall not be used. <br />4. Old dry straw which breaks rather than bending in the crimping <br />process will not be accepted. <br />PART 3 -EXECUTION <br />3.01 Preparation <br />._ A. Grade <br />1. All excavation, backfill, water and compaction of fill shall be com- <br />pleted to the lines and grades shown on the Drawings prior to seeding. <br />2. The topsoil shall be prepared for seeding in accordance with Section <br />02810. <br />~• 3. All weeds that remain after the initial grading or tilling shall be <br />removed before seeding or sodding. <br />B. Fertilizer <br />1. Fertilizer shall be spread uniformly at the rate specified and washed <br />into the soil by the application of water or tilled into the top 2 inches <br />of soil. <br />- 2. Sufficient fertilizer shall be evenly distributed to provide 50 pounds <br />of free nitrogen per acre. <br />_ 3.02 Seeding <br />-• A. General <br />1. All seed shall be applied by drill seeding, hydroseeding or broadcast <br />seeding. <br />2. Drill seeding will be used unless impractical or impossible due to <br />steep slopes or relatively small areas. <br />3. Drill seeding will be accomplished through the use of a modified <br />rangeland drill or equivalent heavy duty agricultural equipment. <br />• 4. The drill will be equipped with separate seed boxes for use in planting <br />large and small seeds, furrow openers, and packer wheels for proper <br />seed placement and soil coverage. <br />• 02821-3 <br />
