• <br />A. Topsoil Application <br />1. Unless otherwise directed by the Engineer in writing, ell areas desig- <br />~ nated to receive topsoil shall be scarified or tilled to a depth of <br />approximately 12 inches except on slopes too steep for a tractor. <br />These steep slopes will be scarified by hand. <br />2. Such loosening of the subsoil shall be done by discing, harrowing, or <br />other approved methods. <br />3. Topsoil shall be applied only when the subsoil is in a loose, friable <br />condition. <br />4. If the subsoil has become compacted or a surface crust has formed <br />~ subsequent to the initial loosening, it shall again be loosened im- <br />mediately prior to placing and spreading of the topsoa. <br />f 5. Topsoil shall be spread on the designated areas to the depth indicated <br />• hereinafter. <br />r 6. Six inches (6") of topsoil will be placed over all access road <br />embankments, subsoil stockpiles and pond embankments. <br />7. The loose depth of the topsoil shall be sufficient to allow the area to • <br />conform to the elevations shown on the Drawings after natural <br />settlement has taken place, but shall be at least 3 inches deep at all <br />locations. <br />~- 8. All large clods, hard lumps or stones over 3 inches in diameter, brush, <br />roots, stumps, litter and other foreign material shall be removed from <br />i the topsoiled area. <br />` 9. When the operation is completed, the area shall be in condition to <br />i-- receive seed, sod or other planting without further soil preparation. <br />I <br />` B.
