D. Gabion Filler Material
Gabion fill materiel shall be durable rock meeting the requirements of
Section 2.01 above for "Dumped Riprap" except that for the size, shape and
gradation of the stone. Rock used shall be well graded within the sizes
available and 70% by weight, shall exceed the largest dimension of the wire
mesh opening. The maximum stone size, measured normal to the slope, shall
not exceed the mat thickness. Sand, gravel, asphalt, broken coneret.e
fragments, soil or other materials not classified as rock will not be
acceptable as filler material
River rock meeting the size requirements specified herein shall be a suitable
filler material for the gabion mattress.
Gabion filler material shall have an equivalent spherical diameter of 4 to B
inches.

E. Standard Size and Code Designation
The size end code designation indicated on the Drawings shall conform to
the following: Equivalent unit sizes conforming approximately to the sizes
listed will be acceptable.
