○Their past subsurface operations in the area are uncharacterized and all
traditional modeling assumptions about direction of water flow would be
void if water found a path to one of these subsurface structures.
■Arsenic speciation tests through CDPHE found that despite the
wells being relatively shallow, more than half is in the As III state
indicating that the As is likely originating from a deeper limited
oxygen source. I've wondered about the extent of their tunnels.
○If there are elements of concern in their dumped water and
interburden/overburden materials - we don't know with the data they've
presented - and assuming the overly simplistic hydrologic model they
presented is violated, where might the water then go:
●It was surprising to see their maps neglect the potential influence
of the historically very active Cressman Gulch waterway and its
impact on multiple City of Golden properties. It's certainly no
stranger to Golden residents as both a trail and park are named
after it and several engineered structures are in place to direct
flow beneath Pine Ridge rd. and Hwy 93. I attached a map from
the USGS hydrographic dataset that indicates the waterway as a
blue dashed line that carries water under Hwy 93 into North
Golden. Following the natural curve of the hogback as shown in
the topographic relief, it's easy to see how their waste could
become commingled with this waterway or dumped directly into
the Canyon Point neighborhood.
