CffK CONTINENTAL MATERIALS CORPORATION
b. Describe moisture conditioning methods to achieve the compaction specification,
Response: The text in Exhibit D specifies that moisture conditioning will be performed to achieve the
compaction requirements. As is standard on most construction sites, a water truck will be used to
increase the moisture content of the fill as it is placed and compacted. The amount of water added will
depend on recent precipitation, wind, and other variables, and the compaction monitoring will be used
to demonstrate that the required compaction and density was achieved.
c. Provide a minimum density testing frequency(i.e., number of tests per unit volume of placed
material),
Response: The text in Exhibit D has been revised to address this comment. CIVIC proposes to test
density at least every 5,000 cubic yards, which is at the rate of approximately two tests per day.Tests
that fail the 90% proctor specification will receive additional moisture conditioning and compaction until
the density meets the project goals. The compaction method will be demonstrated at the start of the
project to verify that the "method specification" meets the project goals.
d. Describe the screening for deleterious/putrescible material and the fate of unacceptable material(s),
Response: The text in Exhibit D has been revised to address this comment. Also, see the responses to
Comment 9g, below.
e. Describe how complying with these specifications and backfill slopes will be demonstrated to the
DRMS,
Response: The text in Exhibit D has been revised to address this comment. The compaction records will
be maintained onsite and will be available for DRMS inspection. CIVIC will include the construction
testing results in the monthly monitoring summary;this summary will include construction quality
assurance test results, geotechnical monitoring results, construction volumes, and drone survey results.
f. Clarify how the granite material described as "Bulldozers will push excavated material downhill to the
reclamation slope configuration..." (reference page D-2, paragraph (b), Earthmoving Operations) in the
upper slope will meet the compaction specifications.
Response: The text in Exhibit D has been revised to address this comment. Granite will be pushed by
dozer to move the bulk fill.A second dozer push will distribute the granite parallel to the quarry face in
an appropriate lift thickness. The fill will be watered and compacted to complete the placement in a
level fashion that is cross hill and horizontal.
g. Discuss how the area backfilled to date (Area H)was compacted to assist in stabilizing the slide area
and meet the specifications.
Pikeview Quarry Amendment 4, Response to Adequacy
February 7,2020
3
