EXHIBIT K CLIMATE INFORMATION
1. General Information
The proposed Birdseye Pit is located approximately 4 miles northeast of Leadville Colorado at
an elevation of approximately 10,200 feet. The area is classified as a Continental Subartic
Climate under the Koppen Classification system. This climate type is dominated by the winter
season-a long, bitterly cold period with short, clear days, precipitation mostly in the form of
snow, and low humidity. Summers are mild, with average high temperatures in July of 72.7 'F.
The site is classified as USDA Hardiness Zone 4b with a growing season of approximately May
15-June 1 to September 15-October 1, a total of 105 - 13 5 days. The Leadville airport, located 8
miles southwest of the Birdseye Pit, is an official National Weather Service station. Records
indicate that winds at the airport occur during all times of the year with average maximum daily
velocities between 20-30 MPH. Strong winds during the spring months may cause rapid drying
of the soil surface and care will be taken to protect and nurture seeds and new grasses.
Table K-1
Climate Data of Leadville, Colorado, approximately 5 miles southeast of the proposed
Birdseye Pit (source: https://www.weather-us.com/en/colorado-usa/ladville-climate).
Average Temperature(°F) Average Precipitation(in)
Maximum Minimum Total precip.
