EXHIBIT J VEGETATION INFORMATION
1. Existing Vegetation Community
The vegetation community at the Birdseye Pit consists of rangeland grasses and forbs in the flats
adjacent to the stream with some spruce, pine, and evergreens located on the slopes in the
southern portion of the permit area. Cover is estimated to be greater than 70%with bare ground
is less than 5% of the site (bare ground does not include moss, lichen, litter, or plant canopy).
2. Vegetation Relationship to Soil Types
Rangeland areas that will be disturbed by mining strongly correlate with the Tomichi sandy loam
(ToE). The Troutville gravelly sand loam (TrE) is located up onto the sloped areas and appears
to be home to evergreen vegetation. The Marsh(Mh) soils group is associated with the
vegetation communities along the Arkansas River and appear to contain more riparian vegetation
as identified in the National Wetlands Inventory. Map C-1 shows the wetlands inventory extents
and the soil mapping. Mining avoids the wetlands by design.
3. Pre-Mine Rangeland Carrying Capacity
The carrying capacity for the rangeland areas is estimated to be about two acres per head of
cattle, for a total capacity of 35 head across the roughly 70 acres of rangeland currently present.
NRCS identifies the production for the meadows as averaging 3000 lb/ac annually.
Birdseye Pit Greg,Le"wks and %wooAlc, I'1€
June 2019 J-1
