Sources of Zone I embankment soils may include the following on-site materials: <br /> 'Mud lens <br /> °In-place overburden <br /> 'Stockpiled overburden <br /> 'Clay fill <br /> 'Select zones of miscellaneous fill <br /> The material shall be obtained from required excavations,borrow areas, stockpiles,or other <br /> sources as specified by the Design Engineer. The soils shall be free of any deleterious materials, <br /> including materials larger than 5",as specified by the Design Engineer. Oversize rock fragments <br /> shall be wasted as approved by the Design Engineer or stockpiled for use as riprap when found to <br /> be acceptable to the Design Engineer. <br /> C. Embankment Zone 2 <br /> Zone 2 will be constructed of a clayey gravel soil meeting the following criteria: <br /> Sieve Size Percent Passing <br /> 7" 100 <br /> 1-1/2" 70-95 <br /> No.4 45-80 <br /> No. 200 14-30 <br /> 'No less than 70%passing the 1'/2"sieve <br /> 'Unified Soils Classification: GC,GC-SC <br /> Zone 2 shall be a well graded mixture of 12"of sand,gravel,and cobbles left behind from mining <br /> operations and 6"of weathered claystone bedrock.
