c. Equipment specifications including: make/model/weight of excavator(s), boom and stick
diagrams, maximum depth capability of excavator; number and type of backfill mixing
equipment; and specifications of slurry mixing and desanding equipment.
d. Procedure for water-bentonite slurry mixing, transportation, recirculation, desanding and use.
e. Procedure for mixing and placing soil-bentonite backfill, including methods for proportioning
specified additional dry bentonite.
f. Cold weather construction procedures,per Section 3.6
g. Procedure for trench excavation and backfilling.
h. Procedure for desanding the in-trench slurry.
i. Material properties, sources, and(manufacturer's)certificates of quality.
j. Water shall be tested per Table 1 prior to final approval to ensure that it has appropriate
chemistry for slurry wall construction.
k. Quantity of supplemental fines required per lineal foot of slurry trench to achieve the specified
backfill properties.
1. Control of drainage, spills, wastes, etc.
in. Clean-up, spoils disposal, slurry disposal
3. Backfill Mix Designs
a. The Contractor shall obtain samples of the materials to be encountered during trenching, the
supplemental fines and the Owner-provided construction water. The Contractor shall perform
and submit a mix design that demonstrates that its intended backfill mixture will meet the
requirements specified herein without the addition of dry bentonite. However, the production
backfill shall include a minimum of 1%dry-added bentonite to account for the differences
between laboratory and field conditions.
4. Quality Control Plan
a. The Contractor shall submit a quality control plan with details on personnel, responsibilities,
inspections, and organization for insuring the quality of construction required by these
specifications.
5. Bar Chart Schedule and Sequence of Operations
a. The Contractor shall submit a detailed schedule and sequence of operations in a bar chart
format. The submittal shall include a description of the schedule including typical working
hours and days; sequence of operations; and maintenance schedule.
B. During Construction- The following reports shall be submitted to the Engineer on a regular schedule
during the progress of the work.
1. Reports
a. Daily reports shall be submitted by noon of the day following the date of the report. Final
reports shall be submitted within two to four weeks of the completion of work.
2. Soundings and As-Built Profile
a. The Contractor shall maintain a record of soundings taken during construction including the
depth of the trench, key, and backfill slope obtained each morning and evening. The soundings
shall be used to generate an as-built profile of the trench, as constructed. The Contractor shall
submit said profile at the completion of construction.
3. Fresh Bentonite Slurry Mix
a. A record of plant-mixed bentonite slurry quantities, proportions, properties, and admixtures
made during construction. Adjustments to the slurry mixture shall be noted.
4. Trench Bentonite Slurry Mix
a. A record of in-trench bentonite slurry properties made during construction. Procedures and
admixtures used to modify slurry properties shall be noted.
5.
