Supplement Fines Testing—Results of supplemental fines tests performed on borrow sources <br /> samples and/or supplemental fines staged along trench. <br /> 7. Quality Control Data <br /> a. A record of quality control samples,tests and test results. <br /> 1.5 JOB SITE CONDITIONS <br /> A. The Contractor shall comply with all safety requirements and procedures. <br /> B. The Contractor shall perform all work with qualified personnel under the continuous supervision of the <br /> slurry trench specialist. <br /> C. The Contractor shall exercise extreme care to protect and prevent damage or disruption to existing <br /> utilities. <br /> D. The Contractor is responsible to contact all utility owners, including overhead electrical, in the vicinity <br /> of the work to coordinate utility locates, de-energize or shielding power lines, and observing the <br /> crossing of buries utilities; and protecting all existing utilities from damage. <br /> 1.6 PRODUCT DELIVERY,HANDLING,AND STORAGE <br /> 1. The Contractor shall deliver all materials to the site in undamaged, unopened containers bearing the <br /> manufacturer's original label. <br /> 2. The Contractor shall deliver for use only fresh materials to the site. <br /> 3. The Contractor shall store and handle materials in accordance with the manufacturer's <br /> recommendations. <br /> PART 2 - MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT <br /> 2.1 BENTONITE SLURRY <br /> A. Bentonite slurry shall consist of a stable colloidal suspension of bentonite in water and shall be <br /> controlled in accordance with the most current API Recommended Practice 13B-1, Table 1, and the <br /> following requirements: <br /> 1. At the time of introduction of the slurry into the trench,the slurry shall be a mixture of not less than <br /> 5%bentonite in water. Additional bentonite or admixtures may be required depending on the <br /> hardness and temperature of the water and the quality of the bentonite. The slurry shall have a <br /> minimum apparent viscosity of 40 seconds reading through a Marsh Funnel Viscometer, a pH <br /> between 6 and 8 units and a minimum density of 65 pcf, (1.04 gm/cc). <br /> 2. The slurry mixture in the trench shall have a unit weight not less than 65 pcf(1.04 gm/cc), not <br /> greater than 85 pcf(1.36/gm/cc)or 15 pcf less than the backfill unit weight, or as approved by the <br /> Engineer. The sand content shall not be greater than 20%. The sand content shall be lowered by <br /> replacing the in trench slurry with fresh slurry or a desander may be used to lower the sand content. <br /> 2.2 BENTONITE <br /> A. Bentonite used in preparing slurry shall be pulverized(powder or granular)premium grade sodium- <br /> cation montmorillonite and shall meet the most current API Standard 13A, Section 4.
