For example, before seeding, a pH treatment utilizing an amount of hydrated lime
could be broadcast on any areas previously impacted by the waste rock. The intent
would be to neutralize potentially acid forming material left in the soil.
Alternatively, the site could be left for several years to allow the now exposed
surface soils to leach. The exposed soils would then be analyzed to determine what
amendment, if any, should be applied and in what amounts.
Once the buried soils are exposed and the area ready for reclamation, we will
consult with the DRMS and others to determine the best course of action to begin
site reclamation. If necessary, a revision will be submitted to the DRMS
(ii) state at what point in the mining plan the site will be seeded. Explain how
the seedbed will be prepared to eliminate compacted conditions (e.g.,plowed,
chiseled, disked). State the type, application rate, and soil incorporation methods
of fertilizer application, if any. NOTE. Soil amendments shall only be applied
where soil tests indicate nutrient deficiencies for the plant species to be
established;
As stated above, the best course of action may be to simply employ SWMP devices
to protect the site from erosion and allow the site to site for several years. This will
allow the site to equilibrate with the environment. We would also employ our
Noxious Weed Management Plan during this period.
If the site is showing acceptable native species establishment, we may propose
waiting another two or three years and then make a determination to seed the site.
If it is advantageous at any point in the site evaluation period presented above, we
will seed with the seed mix which is included below.
(iii) state the grass, forb, shrub and tree species to be planted and the
applicable quantities. Specify the quantity of each grass and forb species
as pounds of pure live seed per acre,
A grass seed mix and application rate has been developed specifically for this site:
Variety Species PLS/Acre
Redondo Arizona Fescue 2.0 PLS pounds/acre
Red Fescue 1.0 PLS pounds/acre
Canbar Canby Bluegrass 1.5 PLS pounds/acre
Critana Thickspike Wheatgrass 3.0 PLS pounds/acre
40
