recovery rates for a wide range of particle sizes (Figure 2). It uses a pumping action that
separates particles by density. Again, like an enhanced gravity concentrator, jigs have high
recoveries at a higher per ton operating and capital cost than a sluice box. Since the concentrate
fed into the jig is of relatively high grade, this is not an issue for the finishing concentration step.
The jig concentrate often is only black sand, gold, and other heavy minerals. The jig concentrate
is then fed onto a concentrating table. The table design, shown in Figure 2, is based on a Gemini
table and is produced by MSI. The table is used to separate gold from other heavy minerals.
The recovery rate from a table is even higher than with a jig. If necessary, the table concentrate
may be hand panned prior to sending the concentrate to a refiner.
255
10
Figure 2. The undersize fraction flows across the sluices and is
deposited in an alluvial fan. The processing plant will be located at a higher elevation relative to
the remainder of the operation to allow for good depositional flow into a previously excavated
pits without significant rehandling, see Map C-2.
As portions of the site are already mined, very little overburden and topsoil will be recovered
from these areas. However, undisturbed mining and exploration areas will have limited topsoil
and overburden. Any topsoil, overburden, and separated waste fines from the unmined areas will
be used during Reclamation, see Map F-I. Reclamation will occur concurrently with mining.
Topsoil and overburden stripped from new areas will be directly applied to recently mined and
graded areas.
Box Creek Placer Mine Greg I—icki and Amcialm PLIA
September 2018 D-7
