• requirement of 900 lbs. of air dry matter, an oven-dry to air-dry weight conversion factor
of 1.11, and an overall proper use factor of 50 percent were used in this calculation.
General Statistical Design. Since the original baseline presentation is a composite of
several years of data collection by different consulting firms (ERT, 1979, 1980, 1982 and
WRDC, 1983), a comparison of the results required converting all data to uniform units and
data analysis was standardized. A77 comparisons were made from original data as presented
in Appendices 10-2 through 10-7. The general statistical designs are presented as
follows.
Sample adequacy was determined using the following CM LRD formula:
n = 52 t2
min 2 2
d x
where n = the minimum required sample size
2min
s = sample variance (n-1)
• t = a two-tailed t value with n-1 degrees of freedom at 0.2 probability
d = desired detectable reduction; 10~e (d = 0.1)
x = arithmetic mean
The comparability of affected and reference areas was calculated using the formula
recommended by CMLRD:
x x
t = A - C
s(xA - sC) /
where s(xA xC) = Sz/ nA + nC
P\\
nA nC
and s2 = (nA-1) sA + (nC-1) sC
P
(nA-1) + (nC-1)
. where xA =affected area mean
xC =control area mean
t = two-tailed t-value
2
sA = variance among affected area samples
13
