#F'NATWELL
INFINITE SOLUTIONS
METHODS
This breeding avian concern species risk assessment incorporates data from desktop land-cover
review and public data assessment, primarily through a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's (USFWS)
Information for Planning& Consultation (IPaC)tool (USFWS 2017). The IPaC report populated a list
of threatened & endangered species (TES) and conservation concern avian species that may occur
in the general geographic region of the Project Area. Atwell then ultilized publically available
information from USFWS and CPW,along with:
• the Second Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas(Wickersham 2016),
• the Avian Knowledge Network(AKN 2017),
• CPW State Wildlife Action Plan(SWAP; CPW2015),
• Species Activity Mapping(SAM)data (CPW 2017b),and
• USGS GAP land cover dataset(USGS 2015)
All these data taken together provided a comprehensive set of information to assess the probability
of occurrence for each of the species based on the individual species' known range, habitat
preferences, breeding occurrence records, and known nest sites.
BREEDING AVIAN RISK ASSESSMENT
Atwell utilized the USFWS IPaC tool to generate a list of breeding avian species that could
potentially utilize the Project Area (IPaC Analysis Table, Appendix 1). A total of 24 TES or birds of
conservation concern were listed as potentially occurring within the Project Area based on the
Project location. After further assessment of the breeding habitat preferences and breeding
occurrence records for the 24 species, it was determined that three (3) species have either a
possible or likely chance of occurrence within the Project Area as nesting species. The breeding risk
assessment for these avian species with a likelihood of occurring within the Project Area are
provided below.
143 Union Boulevard,Suite 700.Lakewood.CO 80228 Tel 303 462 1100 Fax 303 825 7110 2
www.atwell-group.com
