f:) ATWELL
ONE COMPANY
INFINITE SOLUTIONS.
GENERAL FINDINGS&CONCLUSIONS
• Three (3) species of nesting birds may potentially utilize the the Project Area based on review of
range maps,breeding records,and observed habitat(IPaC Analysis Table,Appendix 1)
• Federally threatened "Western" Yellow-billed Cuckoo likely does not nest within the near
vicinity to the Project Area or the county at large
• Greater Sage-Grouse may utilize the sagebrush vegetation communities to the north of the
Project Area for nesting and may move into the Project Area (CPW "Production Area") during
the brood rearing phases(i.e.,the summer period)-Figure 1,Appendix H
o Consultation with CPW is recommended
• Willow Flycatcher (USFWS Bird of Concervation Concern, USFWS 2008) may nest within
available shrubby habitats that exists within the development footprint, particularly those that
occur in close association with on-site wetlands or streams. Occurrence of this songbird species
peaks during the week of May 22 (AKN 2017), with nesting likely initiated soon after in this
region of Grand County(Wickersham 2016).
o Project Area habitat should be checked for territorial singing behavior at least 1 week
prior to ground-break/development activities that would directly impact habitat defined
in Figure 2,Appendix U
o Colorado Department of Transportation utilizes a specific MBTA compliance nest-
clearance protocol that could be used as general guidance for this Project Area
development. However, Atwell can provide a more tailored approach for avoiding
impacts to Willow Flycatcher nesting territories upon request.
143 Union Boulevard,Suite 700.Lakewood,CO 80228 Tel 303 462 1100 Fax 303 825 7110 3
www.atwell-group.com
