Deep Cut LLC - 22 West Pit Page 6
Adequacy response 01 Permit # M-2017-032
that is created. It is hard to pick a maximum point for this reason. Map Exhibit C-1
Mining Plan Map shows the existing Plant Site area is 8.93 acres in size and at that time
only 5.15 acres are left to be mined. The working face is 350 ft long, the lake area is
18.56 acres, the reclaimed area along the banks of the new cut area is 1.12 acres and the
pre-law dirt pile and undisturbed areas around the rest of the mine covers 9.74 acres.
When mining is progressing through the largest area to be mined, the old Plant site area,
it would only need grading and shaping if mining ended then. The Mining Timetable on
Page 11 has been revised to remove the suggestion that this is a Phased operation. It
includes information on each option as outlined in the Reclamation Plan. Option 1
shows the entire site is mined and Option 2 shows that only the old Plant Site area will be
mined.
9) Pursuant to Rule 6.4.4(f)(i),please clarify the maximum mining depth to occur(from existing ground
surface to bottom of deposit to be mined).
From the original ground surface to bedrock it will be from 20 to 25 feet deep (page 6).
10) The mining plan indicates the operation will maintain a 25 foot mining setback from the proposed
permit boundary. However, on Exhibit C 1 —Mining Plan Map,the pond appears to be expanded to the
southern permit boundary. Please provide clarification, and correct the map if necessary. Please be
sure any proposed setbacks are included on the mining plan maps.
You are correct, that in the lake area there are no setbacks since the lake has existed for
many years and due to State Water regulations it was necessary to create a permit line
that would separate the Pre/Post 1981 lake area. Everything outside the southern permit
line was determined to be either reclaimed or pre-law lake area that the permittee did not
want in this permit. The shape of the line was necessitated because of the conditions
needed to include all post 1981 water surface area in this new permit but leave out the
reclaimed area and pre-1981 lake area released from M-1977-560. The operator has no
intention of mining or re-disturbing the lake area except along the eastern, northern and
western shores. The lake area will be used as a ski lake so no setback is needed along
the permit line that is within by lake boundary.
11) On page 10 of the application, the applicant states that no processing will take place at the mine as all
mined material will be sold as pit run construction fill. However, in a few paragraphs down from that,
the applicant states that most water will be used for dust control on haul roads and the processing site.
Please explain or correct this discrepancy.
The processing site is a general term used to describe the stockpile areas and load out
operation areas that may need some dust control water. The only water used will be for
dust control or that trapped in the pit run gravels when mined.
Exhibit E —Reclamation Plan (Rule 6.4.5):
12) Pursuant to Rule 6.4.5(2)(a), please indicate acreage to receive grading (specifying approximate length
and width of shoreline to be graded to 3H:1 V, and to be graded to 5H:1 V) and retopsoiling. These
acreages should be estimated for the mining phase of maximum disturbance.
At the maximum disturbance time based in the proposed mining plan there will be 350
feet or less of bank sloping needed at any-one-time (page 10). Sloping will follow mining
