Deep Cut LLC - 22 West Pit Page 3
Adequacy response 01 Permit # M-2017-032
A title has been added to the cross section.
c. The Exhibit C1 —Mining Plan Map legend includes a symbol (red) for"Stripped/Partially Mined"
areas. However, the Division could not located an area colored red on the map. To reduce confusion,
please either use the symbol on the map or remove it from the legend.
I have removed it from the legend.
d. On the Exhibit C 1 —Mining Plan Map, a tiny box is shown at the far southwestern portion of the
proposed affected land boundary, and is labeled "Concrete". This feature is not shown on the Exhibit
C —Pre-Mining Map. Please describe this feature, including its intended use for the operation, if any.
Is it an existing feature or one to be constructed? If it is an existing feature, please be sure to include it
on the Exhibit C — Pre-Mining Map.
That is a small concrete pad that was where the old scale house was located. It is now
shown on the Exhibit C Map and labeled. There are 2 pads that will be left when mining
ends for use by the landowner. The pre-law concrete washout area also appeared when
the layer was turned on. I have shown it on all maps since it will remain once the mine is
reclaimed.
e. In comparing the two maps submitted, it appears the applicant proposes extracting material to
connect the two ponds, leaving a sliver of shoreline along the southern boundary. Please provide
clarification as to how the applicant intends to do this without causing offsite damage to occur along
the proposed southern affected land boundary. How much land does the applicant intend to leave
along this portion of the southern shoreline? What is the anticipated disturbance setback from the
southern permit boundary? Will the operation maintain a 3H:1V or flatter slope gradient for this
portion of the shoreline?
The proposed setback from the permit line is 25 feet to the dig line which will leave 0.13
acres ± of dryland on that shore. The permit line is approximately 10 feet from the base of
the pre-law slope and the plan is to not disturbed the area between the toe of the old
slope and the dig line/lake bank. The setback line will be established along what will
become the shore of the lake as mining progresses on this area. The existing vegetation
on the shore will not be redisturbed. Mining would then commence along the dig line
working north using a track hoe to mine the material. A shallow underwater bench will be
built along the first 10 feet out from the bank to act as a wave break. We expect that over
time this bench will blend with the underwater slopes like the rest of the shoreline. The
above water areas along the new cut will be revegetated prior to deepening the lake. As
mining progresses away from this shore the below water slope will be left at a minimum of
3H to 1 V from there to bedrock. We have found that over time, waves from the boats
tend to break the underwater slopes down to less then the required 3:1 and the shallow
bench will allow cattails and other wetland vegetation to be established along this shore
providing the protection for the established shore line.
f. Please label on Exhibit C1 —Mining Plan Map any material stockpiling and/or equipment storage
areas, and overburden and topsoil storage areas for the operation.
Map Exhibit C-1- Mining Plan Map has been revised showing the approximate location
of the processing, material stockpiles and equipment storage area. The area designated
as Plant Site will be used throughout the life of the mine for one or all of the activities you
