MINING PLAN EXHIBIT D(CONT)
and was never redisturbed after it was added to M-1977-560 in
1997 .
It is believed that the northern end of the old Plant Site was
never mined. The plan is to start mining on the east side of
this area and work west and south until the gravel is removed.
The Mining Plan Map shows how this may look as mining progresses .
Once the permit limits are reached mining will move to the
northeast corner and progress to the west they the pre-law area .
Along the east section of the north line in the mining area is a
band of land that has not been mined and contains large stock-
piles of overburden and growth medium that were in place in 1977 .
This strip of land varies in width from 200 feet on the west end
to 350 feet on the east end was used as a storage area for
stripped soils and overburden during past mining. The area has
reclaimed it' s self over the years, the slopes are stable and the
north lake slope is also reclaimed. The plan is to eventualy
remove and use or sell the overburden as construction fill and
then mine the underlying gravel . Overburden varies from four
feet to twelve feet across this piece of the property. We
estimate there will be enough growth medium left in the old
storage area that can be salvaged and used to respread 5 to 7
inches on the areas around the lake perimeter that will need
seeding.
Excavations to date indicate that the sand and gravel below the
overburden is from 20 feet on the east end to 25 feet on the west
end. Underlying the sand and gravel is a relatively, impermeable
grey shale . The shale acts as a bottom for the pit throughout the
area except in a few spots where dirty sands are encountered
before the shale is reached.
The PRE-MINING MAP -EXHIBIT C shows how the area looks at this time,
the outline of the mining area, the touching landowners, the 200
foot ownership, current topography, and hydrologic features of
the property. The land is presently used for mining and indus-
trial purposes by the landowners . Most of the area is highly
disturbed where equipment has been stored, partially mined and
covered by lake . It is overgrown by invading weeds and contains
little natural vegetation except around the gravel mine lake or
the northwestern corner of the Plant Site . Cottonwood, Elm and
6
