Exhibit H Wildlife (cont)
Copies of Sections from BLM Environmental Assessment for amendment area
50' Wi d .fq,,:SPOC14
5.14.1. Affected Environment
A review of the Project Area on the US Fish and Wildlife Service IPaC website (Information for
Planning and Consultation) at: littps://ecos.fws. cgv/ipac/ shows the potential for one Federally
Listed species, the Canada lynx, a Threatened Species. Additionally, review of Colorado Parks
and Wildlife GIS data from 2016 (stored on BLM State Office GIS Corporate data-"CPW
Species Activity Data") also notes "Lynx Potential Habitat" (primarily the adjacent Gore Range)
and a Linkage Zone (State Bridge) 1.5 miles to the west. On the site visit noted previously, BLM
personnel observed no potential habitat for the lynx's primary prey species; the snowshoe hare.
Lynx are highly unlikely to reside in the project area. They could use the surrounding habitat as a
travel/dispersal corridor, but would not remain in the area due to its unsuitability. Also
mentioned previously is the fact that the existing pit has been in operation for over 40 years, so
the area has been impacted by the small amount of habitat disturbance caused by the pit and
associated noise disturbance.
5.14.2. Environmental Consequences - Proposed Action
Canada lynx will not be impacted by expansion of the existing pit operation by approximately
50% over the existing disturbance.
5.14.3. Environmental Consequences - No Action Alternative
The No Action Alternative would not lead to any impacts, detrimental or beneficial, to the
Canada lynx.
5.14.4. Mitigation Measures
None required.
5:15. Wildlife::Terrestrial
5.15.1. Affected Environment
Review of Colorado Parks and Wildlife GIS data from 2016 (stored on BLM State Office GIS
Corporate data-"CPW Species Activity Data") determines the Project Area is in:
• Wild turkey winter range
• Bighorn sheep winter range, winter concentration area, and summer range
• Elk severe winter range
• Mule deer winter range, severe winter range, and winter concentration area
The site is also within BLM Kremmling Field Office's "Big Game Winter Range", a stipulation
developed to notify(primarily) oil and gas operators of additional resource protection required.
Consequently, the pit expansion area and the larger landscape immediately surrounding are
DOI-BLM-CO-N020-2017-0034-EA 39
18
