All of the post-mine land use areas are shown on Map F. There are a few cottonwood, alder,
russian olive and willow trees within the permit area, especially east of the North Pond. These
trees will not be removed during the mining and reclamation process.
A new shelf wetland of 0.45 acres in the permit area was created in the past as part of the
reclamation of the North Pond area. This area will not be disturbed as part of the reclamation
effort. All of these wetlands are shown on Map F.
5. Worst Case Reclamation Costs
The worst-case reclamation scenario takes place at the end of mining the remaining 6000 cubic
yards from the perimeter of the South Pond. At that time, 11,000 cubic yards of overburden must
be moved by Cat D-7 dozer or equivalent to the final slope of 3H:1 V around the perimeter of the
South Pond, which is a length of 1500 feet. The push distance is approximately 50 feet and the
gradient is -20%.
All sloped areas will need to be graded to 311:1 V or 5H:1 V before topsoiling and seeding(see
Map F for locations of 3H:1 V and 2H:1 V slopes below water level).
No structures will require removal upon reclamation.
Worst case reclamation costs for this scenario are shown in Table D-2:
Olathe Pit, 2018
