For the wetland fringe area around the pond the following seed mix is recommended:
Wetland Mix
Species lbs.of PLS/Acre**
Nebraska sedge 1.0
Hardstem bulrush 4.0
Beaked sedge 1.0
Alkali balrush 2.0
Total 8.0
This seed mix should be hand-raked into the soil and covered with mulch, avoiding the
compaction of mechanical equipment.
These grasses in the dry rangeland mix have proven to do well in the dry lowland environment of
western Colorado. The wetland mix has done well for the wetland fringe of a gravel pit in the
area. They will prevent erosion and do provide forage and cover for animals. Certified weed free
hay or straw mulch will also be applied at the rate of 2000 lbs/acre.
