Since the pond perimeter is 1500 feet and the track hoe can reach 18 feet from the pond edge to a
depth of 6 feet, this results in a volume of 6000 cubic yards or 9000 tons maximum to be mined
in the permit area.
Since there is no room for facilities, any gravel mined will be hauled directly to one of Western
Gravel's other permitted sites for processing. The access to the site will be from South River
Road, from the west to the existing pre-law access road. Gravel will be directly loaded into haul
trucks and hauled to the Montrose facility of Western Gravel.
There are existing stockpiles of overburden and topsoil within the permit area from the past
mining activities. These will be used in final grading and reclamation.
Current slopes in the South Pond are currently steep and will need to be back filled after final
mining.
Olathe Pit, 2018
