and cannot be on-site more than 30 days at a time without special Park County and City of Alma
approval.
No night mining activities are scheduled for the operation; however, portable lighting may be
used within the permit area from time to time. Portable lights will only be used at the bottom of
the pit for equipment maintenance and crushing activities within permitted hours of winter
months while daylight hours are shorter. Portable toilets will be used for employees. All mining
structures on-site are shown on Map C-1. The portable mining equipment such as loaders,
dozers, trucks and excavators will be serviced on-site as needed. Upon reclamation, all portable
equipment will be removed from the site.
No problems are expected with vandalism. It is extremely unlikely that any toxic or acid-
producing materials will be encountered during the mining operation as none were encountered
in the past and the mined material is alluvial in nature. However, in the event that such materials
are encountered, they will be covered with subsoil and topsoil from on-site stockpiles to depths
outlined in the reclamation plan and no more mining will occur in the area.
The operator has clearly marked the permit boundary with stakes surveyed on-site.No
Trespassing signs are posted along all boundaries. Speed limits and other traffic control signs are
found throughout the site and around the operation area. Water and/or magnesium chloride is
applied to all roads to keep dust down while mine vehicle traffic occurs.
Four existing access locations are present on the site, all of which were present in 1975. These are
access numbers 7, 1, 4, 3 as shown on Map C-2. Locations 1, 3, and 4 enter Highway 9 south of
the Town of Alma. Access 7,which is not used as of October 2017, leaves the permit area in the
west-northwest corner and eventually joins with Highway 9.No acceleration or deceleration lanes
have been required at any of the existing access locations and are not anticipated as required
based on current and projected mining timetables and rates.
The Alma Placer Mine will use multiple sediment sumps to trap all runoff from a 100 year 24-
hour rain event. These sediment settling/storm water ponds are located throughout the site and
will be regraded during reclamation. Slopes in the area of drainages will be maintained at or
shallower than 2H:IV. This is in accordance with the Storm Water Discharge permit.
