The scope of work for AEG included a wide range of services for site
remediation, with total project services and site remediation costs exceeding $15M. More
specifically, it included:
• Design, construction and commissioning of an active water treatment facility in less than
90 days, treating primarily lead, zinc, cadmium and arsenic.
• Soils remediation for 13 acres of low pH plant soils, 17 acres of waste gypsum materials
and scattered high arsenic soils. Final soil products met stability tests for geochemical
leaching and geotechnical strength to allow for redevelopment.
• Insitu treatment of impacted groundwater using biological sulfate reduction, resulting in
arsenic, cadmium, selenium and zinc precipitation. The treatment process targeted known
source areas, allowing for groundwater remediation standards to be achieved in less than 4
years and resulting in metal concentrations in the active water treatment plant influent to
be reduced by 99%.
Gold King Mine—Environmental Restoration—Silverton, CO
On August 5,2015 the abandoned Gold King Mine near Silverton,Colorado inundated the Animas
river with mine waste, triggering an emergency response by the US Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA). AEG's scope of work was focused on the design and construction of an active
water treatment plant to stem the flow of contaminants.
