• Vegetated buffer zones;
• Silt fences;
• Wattles;
• Erosion control blankets; and
• Check dams.
C. Ore Stockpile Consolidation and Processing
Several historic surface ore stockpiles (referred to as the May Day No. 2, (<100 cubic yards) May Day
No. 3 (<1,500 cubic yards), and Idaho stockpiles (<2,100 cubic yards) (see Figure D-4) will be
evaluated. Economical ore will be removed and processed at an offsite custom mill.
Phase 2 Undereround Exploration and Production Phase: May Day No. 1 Operational Area
Underground stockpiled ore within the May Day No. 1 stope (approximately 7,400 CY) and ore
stockpiles located near the historic Idaho Mill building (2,100 CY) (Exhibit D -Figure D-4) will be the
mining focus during the first two to three years. After ore stockpiles have been removed and offsite
custom Mill' processed and upon completion of the Phase 2 underground exploration phase, a more
detailed mine plan will be developed and, if necessary, an amendment or technical revision (TR) will be
submitted for approval. A detailed mine plan will be prepared upon completion of mine development
and underground exploration activities.
The initial underground mining phase will commence in May Day No. I utilizing blasting methods, jack
legs, and front-end loaders. Mine support vehicles will also include excavators, backhoes, front end
loaders, rock bolt drills, dozers, pickup trucks, dump trucks and 25 -ton ore haulers. Ore will be hauled
from May Day No. l and the Pay Day Idaho mine area to the Base of Operations to be loaded into over
the road approved haul trucks. Preliminary exploration results indicate ore production will continue for a
minimum of 5 years at average rate ranging from 40-60 tons per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per
year.
In 2013, the May Day No. I portal was stabilized in accordance with TR -I and will be used as the
primary access to the underground mine workings.
The Chief Portal will be used as an emergency escape way and for mine ventilation (Refer to Figure D-
10). The Chief Portal was reconstructed in 2016 in accordance with TR 5, TR 7 and TR 8.
Other affected mine areas include the Pay Day Idaho mine area (see Figure D-11) and pre-existing roads
(see Figure 12a and Figure 12b).
When necessary, blasting will be done in accordance with the protocols described in the Geotechnical
Stability Exhibit 6.5.4 and will comply with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Administration (ATF) requirements.
Mining and underground exploration activities work will be performed in accordance with MSHA
regulations.
8 Potential custom mills include the Union Mill (Leadville) and Gold Links Mill South of Gunnison,
Colorado).
