Access Road and Staging Area Construction:
Three equipment staging areas are planned. The three staging areas include areas in close proximity to
the Base of Operations, the May Day No. 1 and the May Day No. 2 benches. The Base of Operations will
be constructed approximately 50 feet east of County Road (CR) -124. The Base of Operations will be the
location where supplies and supporting outside service contractors, chemical storage, fuel, oil products,
mine equipment, porta-lets, emergency and safety equipment will be delivered or serviced.
The Base of Operations area (Figure D-3) will not store regulated reportable hazardous or toxic
chemicals. Small quantities will be stored in a locked chemical storage area within a secondary
containment pad. Fuel storage units have been designed with secondary containment capable of holding
150% of the volume of the stored product (see Exhibit U for containment details). The Base of
Operations will include up to nine parking spaces, in addition to providing room to maneuver field and
delivery trucks.
The Base of Operations will be bermed and or fenced to limit access, to mitigate potential visual impacts,
to reduce potential noise impacts and to improve site security.
Equipment and ore staging areas will be located at the May Day No. 1 and May Day No. 2 mine benches.
The May Day No. 1 and May Day No. 2 staging areas will be used to temporally store underground mine
equipment and supplies. The benches will also be used to temporarily store fuel (with secondary
containment), mine rock, potable water, spill response kits, extinguishers, ore and a Port -a -let.
B. Grading of existing Roads, May Day No. I and May Day No. 2 benches and Installation of
Stormwater Best Management Practice Structures (BMP)
Where necessary, the new4 (Figure D-5) and existing access roads will be regraded, truck turnouts will be
established (base of Forest Service Access Road and May Day No. 2 portal area) and stormwater BMPs
will be put in place and maintained. As necessary, the May Day No.l (Figure D-6), May Day No. 2 (refer
to Figures D-7 and D-8) mine benches will be used to temporarily store' ore and mine rock6.
Site activities for each affected operating area follow:
• Roads (Figure D-5)
o Install signs and gates;
o Construct berms and crash barriers;
2 TR -3 Approved the La Plata Bridge on June 26, 2012 (see Appendix D-1)
3 TR -6 -Removed on April 2, 2013, the previously approved Mill from the permit
4 Approved TR -2 on May 23, 2012
5 Ore and Rock storage pads are designed with an impermeable clay liner.
6 Underground waste rock may be temporarily stored (<180 days) on storage pads while a detailed
exploration, development and mine plan are being prepared.
