3. Describe the estimated topsoil depth and how topsoil will be salvaged, stockpiled and
redistributed for the re-establishment of vegetation. Specify approximate topsoil
redistribution depth:
All topsoil will be scraped, along with a small amount of subsoil to a depth of approximately
8 inches. The topsoil will be placed uphill from the excavation site on flat areas and
buttressed with deadfall for redistribution. Regolith and substratum will be piled adjacent but
separated from the topsoil. When the excavation is reclaimed, the substratum and rock will
be placed first into the excavation, followed by the soil. The soil will be distributed evenly to
a maximum depth allowed by the amount of soil initially present. The site will be
re-contoured to match the original contour except where prudent to terrace the surface to
prevent erosion and to hold the soil. Silt fences or deadfall from the Hayman fire will also be
used on slopes to prevent erosion and will remain in place until vegetation is reestablished.
4. Describe how drill holes will be plugged (refer to Rule 5.4 of the Rules for required
abandonment procedures):
There will be no drilled holes.
S. Describe how portals, adits, shafts, ponds, excavations, or other disturbances will be
reclaimed (refer to Rule 3 and Rule 5 for specific reclamation performance standards).
You may wish to contact the Division for closure specifications.
Only shallow excavations will be used. The topsoil will be placed in a separate pile from the
excavated earth. Upon completion of each prospect excavation, the hole will be filled using a
backhoe. After replacing the overburden rock, the topsoil will be spread on top to the original
depth. Each prospect will be contoured to original contours but left with a rough surface to aid in
the trapping of the planted seeds and moisture for grass regrowth. Where slope is greater than
15%, silt fences or deadfall from the Hayman fire will be placed downslope and bermed.
Fencing will remain in place until 80%or greater growth of planted seeds.
Form 2—Public File Page 9 of 14
