4.1.2 Phase II Data Recovery
Based on the results of the Phase I testing, up to an additional 40 m2 of excavation may be
warranted. This data recovery will follow the methods detailed in Section 5.2 below.
4.2 SITE 5MF3996
4.2.1 Phase I Testing
For Phase I excavation, 20 auger tests and five 1 x l -m test units are proposed. The 20 auger
tests will be divided into two grids, Grid A and Grid B, and both will be placed immediately
west of the staining observed during the revisit. Grid A will consist of 13 augers divided into
three rows (two rows of four and one row of five). Grid B will consist of seven auger tests
divided into three rows (two rows of two and one row of three). One row of augers in each grid
will be placed on the bladed road to investigate the potential for buried cultural material below
the road surface. The five 1 x 1-m test units will be placed where the auger testing indicates the
highest potential for buried cultural deposits. In areas where the auger tests indicate that
deposits are either deeper than 1 m or are horizontally extensive, test units may be grouped to
allow full exposure and evaluation of buried deposits. If no cultural remains are discovered
