2.04.9 Soils Resource Information <br />The present plant community is mainly greasewood, four -wing salt bush, western <br />wheat grass, and cheat grass. <br />The potential productivity is 900 to 500 pounds of air-dry vegetation in favorable <br />and unfavorable years, respectively. <br />This map unit is in capability unit Vlw dryland, foothills swale range sites. <br />MAP UNIT: RO - ROCK OUTCROP, VARIABLE SLOPES <br />This map unit is on strongly sloping to extremely steep mountain slopes, uplands <br />and sides slopes of mountains. There are a few scattered pinion and juniper in a <br />juniper -woodland community. <br />Rock outcrops include vertical sandstone or shale cliffs, uplifted and tilted <br />massive beds, and areas with less than three inches of soil over bedrock. <br />Included in this map unit is about 10 percent of area where more than 3 inches of <br />soil is overlaying bedrock. The unit is used for wildlife habitat. <br />MAP UNIT: TRDE - TORRIORTHENTS - ROCK OUTCROP COMPLEX, 15 TO 65 <br />PERCENT SLOPES <br />This map unit is on moderately sloping to extremely steep mountain slopes and <br />canyon bluffs. The slope is 15 to 65 percent. The vegetation is mainly a juniper <br />woodland community. <br />Included in this map unit are Torriorthents, rock outcrops, and Haplargids. The <br />map unit includes about 30 percent loamy, skeletal families of Lithic Ustic Torriorthents <br />and 40 percent moderately deep, and deep loamy skeletal, and sandy skeletal Ustic <br />Torriorthents. Rock outcrops are vertical sandstone or shale cliffs, uplifted and tilted <br />massive beds, and area with less than three inches of soil over bedrock and comprise <br />20 percent of the unit. Included are about 10 percent moderately deep, and deep loamy <br />and coarse loamy Ustic Haplargids. <br />The shallow Torriorthents and the moderately deep, and deep Torriorthents are <br />similar to the Rentsac series and the Nihill series respectively. The Nihill soil is <br />described above. <br />The Rentsac soil is a member of the loamy, skeletal, mixed (calcareous), frigid <br />family of the Lithic Ustic Torriorthents. A representative profile of the Rentsac very <br />gravelly loam, sample MC 11, 1,060 feet east and 2,035 feet north of the southwest <br />corner of Section 21, T 7S, R 102 W at an elevation of 5,452 feet is: <br />Al 0 to 3 inches; light yellowish brown (10 YR 6/4) very gravelly loam, yellowish <br />brown (10 YR 5/4) moist; weak very fine granular breaking to very fine single <br />5 Range site established for Rio Blanco County. <br />PR -02 2.04-44 <br />10/12 <br />
