2.04.9 Soils Resource Information <br />MAP UNIT: NIBE - NIHILL LOAM, 5 TO 35 PERCENT SLOPES <br />This map unit is on gently sloping to moderately steep fans, draws, terraces and <br />gullies. The slope is 5 to 35 percent. The native vegetation is mainly a greasewood - <br />shrubland community or a juniper - woodland community. <br />Included in this map unit is about 20 percent Torriorthents ranging from shallow <br />to moderately deep in loamy -skeletal and sandyskeletal families. Included areas make <br />up about 20 percent of the total acreage. <br />Typically, the surface layer of the Nihill soil is a pale brown to grayish brown loam <br />or gravelly loam about 8 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is <br />light brownish gray, pale brown, or light brownish gray gravelly to very gravelly loam, <br />sandy loam, or clay loam. <br />Permeability of the Nihill soil is moderately rapid. Available water capacity is <br />moderately low. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches. Runoff is rapid and the erosion <br />hazard for water is moderate. Wind erosion hazard is medium. <br />The unit is mainly used for rangeland. It is also used for wildlife habitat. The <br />present plant community is mainly juniper, big sage, and summer -cypress; grasses <br />include cheat grass, western wheat grass, and salina wild rye. <br />The potential productivity is 1,500/900/800 pounds of air-dry vegetation in <br />favorable/normal/and unfavorable years, respectively. <br />This map unit is in capability unit IVe dryland on 8 to 15 percent slopes and Vle <br />dryland on 15 to 35 percent slopes, rolling loam range site4. <br />MAP UNIT: RIAB, RIVRA GRAVELLY SANDY LOAM VARIANT, 0 TO 8 PERCENT <br />SLOPES <br />This map unit is on nearly level to gently sloping low terraces and flood plains. <br />The slope is 0 to 8 percent. The native vegetation is mainly a greasewood-shrubland <br />community <br />Included in this map unit is about 5 percent Nihill below sandstone outcrop. <br />Typically, the surface layer of the Rivra variant is a pale brown or light brownish <br />gray gravelly sandy loam about 8 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches <br />or more is light brownish gray to pale brown, stratified very gravelly loamy sands and <br />loamy coarse sands. <br />Permeability of the Rivra variant is very rapid. Available water capacity is <br />moderate. Effective rooting depth is 40 to 60 inches. Runoff is slow, and the erosion <br />hazard for water is medium. Wind erosion hazard is moderate to moderately high. <br />The unit is mainly used for rangeland and wildlife habitat.
