2.04.9 Soils Resource Information <br />substratum is a pinkish -gray loam and clay loam extending to a depth of 60 inches or <br />more. Runoff is moderate and the erosion hazard for water is slight. Wind erosion <br />hazard is moderately severe. <br />The unit is mainly used for rangeland and wildlife habitat. It is also used for <br />pasture. The present plant community is mainly cheat grass, western wheat grass, big <br />sage, and greasewood. <br />Glendive soil is in capability unit 111 a dryland, 11 a irrigated, foothills swale range <br />site 2. Havre soil is in capability unit 111 c dryland, 11 c irrigated, on 0 to 2 percent slopes <br />and 11 a dryland and 11 a irrigated on slopes greater than 2 percent, foothills swale <br />range site Fruita soil is in capability unit V1 e dryland, loamy salt desert range site. <br />MAP UNIT: HMB - HAVRE LOAM, SALINE PHASE, 0 TO 8 PERCENT SLOPES <br />This map unit is on nearly level to gently sloping valley bottoms and flood plains. <br />The slope is 0 to 8 percent. The native vegetation is mainly a greasewood-shru bland <br />community. <br />Included in this map unit is about 10 percent Uffens silt loam, and about 10 <br />percent Glendive loam. Included areas make up about 20 percent of the total acreage. <br />The Uffens soil is a member of the fine -loamy, mixed, mesic family of Typic <br />Natrargids. Areas of Uffens soils less than 1.5 acres each are designated on the map by <br />a saline/sodic spot symbol, 0. <br />Typically, the surface layer of the Havre soil is a light brownish gray or light gray <br />loam about 6 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is a saline <br />brown, grayish brown, or light gray stratified loam, silty clay loam, or sandy loam. <br />Permeability of the Havre soil is moderate. Available water capacity is moderate <br />to moderately high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches. Runoff is slow and the erosion <br />hazard for water is moderate. Wind erosion hazard is slight. <br />The unit is mainly used for rangeland and wildlife habitat. It is also used for <br />pasture. <br />The present plant community is mainly cheat grass and western wheat grass with <br />big sage and greasewood. <br />The potential productivity is 2,500 and 1,200 pounds of air-dry vegetation in <br />favorable and unfavorable years, respectively. <br />This map unit is in the capability unit 111w irrigated on 0 to 2 percent slopes and <br />1 Vw irrigated on 2 percent and steeper slopes, foothills swale range site3. <br />2 Range site established in Moffat county. <br />3 Range site established in Moffat county. <br />PR -02 2.04-42 10/12 <br />
