Request for Technical Revision
Permit M-1977-227
Mesita Hill Mine
Introduction
The permitted area is 201 acres, containing undisturbed land, land disturbed
prior to this permit, and disturbance carried out under the permit. The material
being mined does not occur uniformly across this extensive site, due to variations
in depth of deposit, the type of material, and thickness of overburden overlying
the deposit. Past mining has left significant disturbed acreage and created
numerous small pits and highwalls and a large central pit.
There are many acres which have been mined out, but were not adequately
reclaimed by the former permittee. These areas consist of the large central pit
and numerous smaller pits, generally located around the perimeter of the site. It
is these areas that we wish to backfill with unmarketable material (fines and
overburden) as we proceed through the phases, and reclaim by placing topsoil
and seeding. We have already begun to backfill the large central pit, as part of
our final reclamation.
The current permittee, Super -Ex, has determined through excavating small test
pits that there is still a significant amount of material that can be economically
mined on many acres of the permit. The primary areas where we wish to focus
our mining on are generally located in the central portion of the permit, as shown
on the enclosed maps.
The portions of the site that have been shown to not contain adequate depths or
quality of material to mine will either not be disturbed or, if they have been
disturbed by past mining and left unreclaimed, we wish to designated these
areas for solely reclamation. These reclamation areas will be located adjacent to
the active mining phases, and as such, we will be able to reclaim them sooner
and more economically.
Processing and stockpiling of mined materials is currently approved for this
permit, and these activities will continue and not change.
Please see the revised Mining Plan map and Reclamation Plan map, enclosed in
this packet.
