Mining Phases
Time to
Complete
Phase I _
8 ears
Phase 2
5 years
Phase 3
— 4 ears
Total
; 17 years
3. Mine Facilities and Operation
The following mining activities will take place at the Fairplay Au Pit:
• Excavation of placer materials and the associated rock
• Washing of construction materials
• Recovery of placer gold
• Stockpiling of products
• Loading of highway trucks
Equipment to support these activities will include portable plants, front-end loaders, dozers, haul
trucks, and sluice.
4. Topsoil and Overburden Handling
Portions of the deposit to be recovered under this permit is old placer hydraulicked tailings. There is
no recoverable topsoil on these portions of the site. In the undisturbed portions of the site, topsoil
will be stripped for use in reclamation, however, it is not anticipated that much topsoil will be
present. Topsoil and overburden in the undisturbed areas ranges from 12 to 18 inches thick. To
compensate for the lack of native topsoil, fines from gold processing will be stockpiled and stored
to act as a topsoil substitute. This material is composed of the same material that topsoil would be
made of — fines from glacial debris. Topsoil and overburden will be stored in a stockpile area (Map
C-2) for portions of the mine's life. This material is expected to only by the immediately stripped
topsoil from the currently undisturbed portions of Phase 1. During most of the operation, topsoil
will be direct placed on regraded areas undergoing reclamation. Any topsoil, overburden storage
berm, and fines stockpiles will be vegetated within 180 days of completion. Table D-3 shows the
topsoil stripping that will take place at each step of the mining operations.
Fairplay A u Pit March 201 .7 D-3 X a.a L-kU -a Amd.— n i r
