Table D-3 Topsoil Stripping Areas
Mining phase Area Topsoil Volume
1 _ _ _ 15.0 Acres 12,100- CY
2 9.0 Acres 14,520 CY
3 - _ 6.4 Acres 10,325 CY Y
Total _ 3 0.4 _Acres 3_6,945 _ CY
Note: The access road will not be topsoiled in reclamation. Phase 1 only has 50% of the topsoil as the other phases due
to prelaw mining.
Overburden is not anticipated in large quantities based on site inspections. Overburden may be
present in the currently unmined area, and will be placed as backfill in the final reclaimed mine.
Overburden is absent adjacent to the river in the previous hydraulicked tailings.
5. Flocculant Use
The Fairplay Au Pit may use floccuiant at times in order to improve the recycling of wash water in
processing. Flocculant is used in the water recirculation systems in mining operations that involve
significant material washing. The use of flocculant expedites the drop-out of sediment in process
waters within recirculation ponds. Due to the high clay content throughout the glacial debris and
alluvium deposit being mined, it is imperative to use flocculant to facilitate settling and thus
separation of fine low-density clay sediments from desirable cobbles, gravels, and high-density
gold. Several nearby placer mines in the area already use flocculants to improve water recycling in
their operations.
Flocculant to be used here is an anionic wet flocculent Hyperfloc AF852 produced by Hychem, Inc.
of California. This chemical is not harmful to fish or other animals unless it is dumped in full
concentration directly into the River in large quantities. See attached Material Data Safety Sheets. It
is safer than many other chemicals used for flocculating dirty waters today and the City of Denver
is using it in its drinking water plants.
5.1 System Design
One 150 -gallon tank of water will be set up adjacent to the sluice box, wherever it is placed in the
permit area. A 55 -gallon steel drum of the Hyperfloc chemical will be set up next to the 150 -gallon
water tank and the Hyperfloc chemical and water will be pumped from both tanks using small
Fairplay Au Pit March 2017 D-5 Greg U h!l nd Mwistm MIX
