D. The locations, alignments, and grades of temporary construction roads shall be subject to <br />approval of the Owner. When no longer required by Contractor, areas of temporary <br />construction roads and staging, stockpiling/disposal and storage areas shall be restored to <br />the original topographic contours. All areas disturbed by construction shall be reclaimed <br />in accordance with Section 02900. All contouring and reclamation work completed in <br />disturbed areas shall be conducted in such a manner as to provide for proper drainage and <br />to prevent erosion. <br />E. Except where clearing is required for permanent works or excavation operations, all trees, <br />shrubbery, vegetation, and wetlands shall be preserved and protected from damage by the <br />Contractor's construction operations and equipment. <br />F. The layout of Contractor's construction facilities such a shops, trailers, storage areas, and <br />parking areas; location of access and haul routes; and operations in the stockpile areas <br />shall be planned and conducted in such a manner that all trees and shrubbery not <br />approved for removal by the Owner shall be preserved and adequately protected from <br />either direct or indirect damage by the Contractor's operations. <br />G. Trees shall not be used for anchorage and no equipment shall be allowed to operate <br />within the dripline of any tree to be protected. <br />3.4 PREVENTION OF WATER POLLUTION <br />A. Contractor's construction activities shall be performed by methods that shall prevent <br />entrance or accidental spillage of solid matter, contaminants, debris, and other pollutants <br />and wastes into flowing or dry water courses, reservoirs, and underground water sources. <br />B. Such pollutants and wastes include, but are not restricted to, refuse, concrete, garbage, <br />sediment from erosion of construction areas, sanitary waste, industrial waste, radioactive <br />substances, oil and other petroleum products, aggregate processing tailing, mineral salts, <br />and thermal pollution. <br />C. Wastewater from construction operations shall not enter water courses, wetlands or <br />reservoirs without passing through suitable sedimentation ponds or treatment facilities <br />approved by Engineer. <br />D. Contractor shall comply with all project permit requirements, and all other applicable <br />federal, state and local laws, orders, regulations, permits, and water quality standards <br />concerning the control and abatement of water pollution. Refer to Section 01061 — <br />Permits. <br />E. Where the location of a construction site is such that oil or gas from an accidental spillage <br />could reasonably be expected to enter into or upon the waters of the U.S. or adjoining <br />shorelines, and the aggregate storage of oil or gas at the site is over 1,320 gallons, or a <br />single container has a capacity in excess of 660 gallons, Contractor shall prepare a Spill <br />Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC), to be reviewed and certified by a <br />Environmental Controls February 2017 01550-2 <br />
