3. Furnish correct type and size of reinforcing and dowels. <br />3.3 INSTALLATION OF WATER STOPS <br />A. General: <br />1. Weld water stops at intersections to provide continuous seal. <br />2. Center water stop on joint. <br />3. Secure water stop in correct position to avoid displacement during concrete <br />placement. <br />4. Repair or replace damaged water stop. <br />5. Keep water stops clean and free from coatings that would weaken the bond with <br />concrete. <br />6. Place concrete and vibrate to obtain impervious concrete in the vicinity of all joints. <br />7. Joints in Footings and Slabs: <br />a. Ensure that space beneath plastic water stop is completely filled with concrete. <br />b. During concrete placement, make a visual inspection of the entire water stop area. <br />c. Limit concrete placement to elevation of water stop in first pass, vibrate the <br />concrete under the water stop, lift the water stop to confirm full consolidation <br />without voids, then place remaining concrete to full height of slab. <br />d. Apply procedure to full length of PVC water stops. <br />B. PVC Water Stop: <br />1. Install in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. <br />2. Splice in accordance with the water stop manufacturer's written instructions using a <br />thermostatically controlled heating iron. Butt splice unless specifically detailed <br />otherwise. <br />a. Allow at least 10 minutes before the new splice is pulled or strained in any way. <br />b. Finished splices shall provide a cross-section that is dense and free of porosity <br />with tensile strength of not less than 80 percent of the unspliced materials. <br />C. Hydrophilic Water Stop. <br />1. Install in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. <br />a. Bond to concrete surfaces with Leakmaster LV -1 sealant per manufacturer <br />instructions. <br />b. Grind concrete surface as required to provide smooth, even bonding surface for <br />water stop. <br />c. Use concrete nails at 6 -inch maximum spacing in conjunction with adhesive for <br />attachment of water stop in all vertical and overhead applications. <br />Expansion, Construction and Control Joints February 2017 03251-6 <br />
