2.4 MULCH <br />A. Wood Fiber Mulch: Biodegradable, dyed, 100 percent long stranded wood fiber mulch; <br />nontoxic; free of plant -growth or germination inhibitors; with maximum moisture content <br />of 15 percent and a pH range of 4.5 to 6.5. Fiber mulch above and nonasphaltic tackifier <br />below are used primarily to protect hydroseeded areas from wind and water erosion <br />during establishment. <br />1. Nonasphaltic Tackifier: Plantgo psyllium based tackifier manufactured for slurry <br />application; nontoxic and free of plant -growth or germination inhibitors. <br />PART 3 — EXECUTION <br />3.1 GENERAL <br />A. Disturbed areas as defined herein shall receive topsoil (distributed as quantities are <br />available), seed, fertilizer and mulch in accordance with the requirements of this Section <br />and as shown on the Drawings. <br />B. Conduct all topsoiling and seeding operations along ground surface contours on all slopes <br />accessible to machinery. There practicable on level or nearly level areas, conduct all <br />equipment operations perpendicular to the prevailing wind direction. <br />3.2 TOPSOILING <br />A. Obtain topsoil from the leeward side of stockpiles where practicable. <br />B. Do not place topsoil until the areas designated to receive topsoil have been prepared, and <br />all other construction work in the area is completed. <br />C. Scarify or rip subgrade to the topsoiled, unless directed otherwise by Engineer. <br />3.3 CONDITIONING SEEDBED SURFACE <br />A. Condition the seedbed surface immediately following topsoil placement, or just prior to <br />seeding in areas not receiving topsoil, by tilling, discing, harrowing, or scarifying <br />compacted areas, and compacting unstable areas. <br />B. Break up tight or compacted topsoil or disturbed ground to receive seed, into 2 -inch or <br />smaller pieces, and to an average depth of 6 inches. <br />C. Re -scarify areas to be broadcast seeded within 48 hours before seeding. <br />3.4 SEEDING <br />A. Drill Seeding: Drill seed 0.25 to 0.5 inch into soil by means of mechanical power -drawn <br />drill seeders followed by packer wheels or drag chains.
