3.3 GEOTEXTILE INSTALLATION <br />A. Install geotextile at the locations shown on the Drawings, and in other areas as directed <br />by Engineer. Do not use geotextile that is damaged, deteriorated or has defects, rips, <br />holes, or other flaws. <br />B. Handle and place geotextile in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation. <br />Stretch, align, and place the geotextile in a wrinkle -free manner. <br />C. Field overlaps may be used in lieu of sewn seams. Overlaps shall be a minimum of 24 <br />inches and should be oriented upslope/downslope or upstream/downstream where <br />possible. <br />D. Geotextile should be held in place with sandbags small piles of overlying backfill or <br />riprap materials prior to placement of overlying embankment fill, backfill or riprap. Pins, <br />or piles of un -specified soil or rock and other materials that may damage or clog <br />geotextile shall not be used. <br />E. Do not operate equipment directly on top of the geotextile. <br />F. On slopes, anchor geotextile securely and deploy geotextile down slope in a controlled <br />manner to continually keep geotextile in tension. <br />G. Cut geotextiles with geotextile cutter (hook blade). <br />H. Visually examine entire geotextile surface for potentially harmful foreign objects and <br />remove prior to placing overlying embankment fill for backfill. <br />I. Prevent excessive tensioning of geotextile during placement. <br />3.4 OPTIONAL SEWN SEAMS <br />A. If Contractor chooses to utilize sewn seams rather than overlapped seams, seams shall <br />meet the following requirements. <br />B. Stitch geotextile seams with polymeric thread meeting the chemical requirements for <br />plastic yarn or bond by cementing or heat. Stitch geotextile with yarn of a contrasting <br />color. The size and composition of the yarn shall be as recommended by the geotextile <br />manufacturer. <br />C. In general, no horizontal seams or splices are allowed on side slopes except as needed as <br />part of a repair patch. Splice is defined as a seam connecting ends of two rolls. <br />D. Overlap geotextile a minimum of 3 -inches prior to seaming. <br />Geotextile February 2017 02205-3 <br />
