D7382 Determination of Dry Unit Weight and Water Content Range for Effective <br />Compaction of Granular Soils Using a Vibratory Hammer <br />1.6 STANDARD ABBREVIATIONS <br />A. The following abbreviations are used in this Section: <br />1. <br />mm = millimeter <br />2. <br />in = <br />inch <br />3. <br />ft = <br />foot <br />4. <br />oz= <br />ounce <br />5. <br />sy = <br />square yard <br />6. <br />lb = <br />pound <br />7. <br />psi <br />= pounds per square inch <br />1.7 QUALITY CONTROL TESTING <br />A. The Owner's Testing Service will test for compaction and for material compliance at <br />locations and times at the discretion of the Engineer. <br />B. CONTRACTOR shall provide access to testing locations and cooperate with the <br />Engineer during testing by temporarily shutting down construction operations in the <br />vicinity of the testing if requested. <br />C. CONTRACTOR shall perform compaction testing at the minimum frequencies identified <br />below to control compaction and shall perform other testing to confirm material <br />compliance at Contractor's discretion; however, testing performed by Owner's Testing <br />Service and results reviewed by the Engineer shall govern. Compaction testing shall be <br />performed at a minimum frequency as follows: <br />a. For every 1,000 cubic yards of embankment and structural backfill placed. <br />b. At least once during each shift of embankment or backfill placement operations. <br />c. In areas where the degree of compaction is suspected to be inadequate. <br />d. In areas where embankment operations are concentrated. <br />D. Compaction testing done using nuclear density gages shall be in accordance with ASTM <br />D6938. Nuclear density gages shall be calibrated in accordance with manufacturer's <br />specifications at least once per day during use. <br />Earthwork February 2017 02200-3 <br />
