N
Slope and Final Contours
(Construction Materials Rule 3.1.5 (1), (3) and 6.3.4 (1b))
As previously mentioned, a considerable portion of the south facing dominant
slope is underpinned by bedrock(some exposed and some not) and has been
stable for 40 or more years. Further the current slopes are represented in
the in the natural surrounding terrain. There is a 0.25 acre area that we
highly recommend to be left in place and not reduced in slope (Appendix E,
Map E5). The mentioned steep slopes have not been disturbed since the
1970s. This will be discussed further in the technical revision summary
section.
The rest of the site should vary from roughly level to a slope no greater than
2/1 which roughly represents the steeper slopes on the north side of the hill
(undisturbed area, Appendix E, Map E5). Keep in mind that the target is 3/1
as that is stable, easier to vegetate, and aids in controlling erosion. Outside
of the previously mentioned 0.25 acre area that ranges from 1/1 to 1.6/1,
the mined slopes range from 3.1/1 to 3.4/1.
While it would be possible to meet the proposed 1995 final contours it would
entail removal of a most of the hili and available product (Appendix E, Map
4). Thus it is highly unlikely given the current rate of product removal that
the proposed 1995 contours would be realized for a considerable time.
We have not provided a specifically designed set of contours as the future
product removal from the pit is uncertain. We do suggest that the operator
keep in mind the surrounding land form and the designated usage at final
abandonment. As such the land will be used to support the Vista Del Sol
ranching operation (e.g. storage of ranching supplies, staging location).
Currently the pit is grazed by both wildlife and livestock.
37 1 Page
FOR: VC3WL11 GRAV k 1.
