OWe suggest the following as a minimum:
1.
Soil testing and use of fertilizers (broadcast) as needed.
2.
Compacted surfaces (e.g. roads) should be ripped or chisel plowed to a
depth of 18 inches with 24 inches preferred before topsoil application.
3.
After topsoil is graded, lightly ripping or chisel plowing map help "bind"
the different layers of soil types. Using a disk may also be sufficient.
4.
The use of microbial agents such a mycorrhizae inoculates and
humates is recommended on poor soils. Caution should be
exercised to prevent a mixing of topsoil with lower layers, to the
extent that a degrading the tilth of the topsoil occurs.
5.
Supplementing the seed bed with organic material is not required
but highly recommended, this includes: hay, straw, and manure
from the ranching operation, crimped straw at one ton/acre, or
straw based blankets and wattles.
6.
Due to the lack of topsoil one may have to rely on a subsoil as a
basic plant growth medium. if this is the case it is suggested that
1, 3, 4, and 5 are utilized singularly or in combination.
See Appendix A (section Soil Preparation and Seeding) for descriptions of
methods and recommended soil amendments.
Erosion, Sediment Control, and Waste Rock Product
O(Construction Materials Rule 6.3.4 (1e))
N
Rock products that are remnants of the mining process can be used in the
following manner:
1. Erosion and sediment control during the final reclaim. See Appendix A.
2. Stockpiled and used on the Vista Del Sol ranch. Select an area for the
stockpile that does not impact the reclamation.
3. Buried in the reclaim and covered with growth medium and
overburden as previously discussed.
One erosion/sediment control structure, a berm, is present on the western
portion of the pit (Photo 6). This structure should remain in place until
mining ceases. Once mining is finished the berm should be reduced in height
and seeded. A small rise should be left to help control water movement into
West Twin Wash and reduce the potential for the bank of the wash being
eroded or collapsing. Water movement into the wash can also be controlled
with ORDS, wattles, rock mulch, and water bars. See Appendix A
36 1 P
1011 1'tMII L c.RAV11.
