October 27,2016 C-1994-082/Yoast Mine JHB
needs to be cleaned out prior to the winter freeze. The embankment has had permanent seed broadcast on the
areas that had been previously treated for noxious weeds.
Pond 11A was holding water several feet below discharge elevation. No problems were noted with Pond 11A.
Stock Tank ST-1 had a shallow muddy pool. Water elevation was several feet below the spillway.
YPM1-2 is in good repair. SPL personnel have created several small rock dams in the rill forming immediately
east of YPM-1-2. The goal is to slow the surface flow down to reduce further growth of this rill. The small rock
checks may be adequate. Spring runoff will be the test.
Pond 014 was holding a pool of clean water but was not discharging.
Pond 013 was holding a pool of water. Water level was a good foot below the discharge elevation.
Pond 012 was discharging. Algae had been cleaned out of the Pond 012 flume. Flow measured<0.1 on the staff
gauge.
Pond 011 had a low muddy pool of water, approximately 8 feet below the discharge elevation. Livestock have
been on the embankment of Pond 011,but grazing did not appear excessive. Rock pile at Pond 011 discharge
flume still requires final disposal.
ROADS—Rule 4.03
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5)and(6)/4.03.2(5)and(6)
Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
The roads throughout the reclaimed site were dry and in good repair. As previously noted during the
September 8,2016 inspection,a slump continues to develop along LU3A at the northern corner of SP07-1 and
west of Armand draw. This is the north east toe of the"neck Pit Slide"that occurred in 2011. There is an
approximate 3inch drop in the road at this slump feature. Currently in this dry condition, the road remains
functional. SPL has attempted to seal up the crack where the slump crosses YPM-20 and the roadside ditch.
Keeping water out of the crack south of Culvert EX-2 should help reduce potential land movement.
Another crack was visible south on access road LU-3B, in TSN,R87W,W 1/2,W 1/2 Section 20. This feature
runs along LU-3B from about SP06-2 north for 40 meters or so. Consultation with the 2011 Instability map finds
that this crack was previously identified and does not appear to be indicative of mass failure. It may represent the
interface of the pit high wall with the eastern edge of the pit,and is a result of settling. No ditches cross this
feature, and no runoff appears to be directed into the crack. The Division recommends continued monitoring of
this feature.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
The reclaimed area was dry and the vegetation had cured. Vegetation throughout the site looked good.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 3 of 7
