October 27,2016 C-1994-082/Yoast Mine JHB
Weeds appeared to have been controlled. The interface between the north side of the north pit and undisturbed was
walked. No gullies or offsite impacts were visible along this interface.
Reclaimed areas(former topsoil stockpiles located north of the ridge, had good cover and diversity. The central
topsoil footprint(North of the ridge)had a good stand of Canada thistle on the east side of this area. The patch
appeared to have been sprayed. Regrowth in the spring will determine how effective the weed control treatment
was. There were a couple of patches that were dominated by annual mustards and Cheatgrass on the north side of
the north pit. These areas were relatively small,no rilling or obvious erosive features were present, and the
patches appeared to have perennials species infiltrating. The Cheatgrass did not appear to be spreading to
surrounding reclamation or undisturbed areas. As long as these patches remain small, contained, not eroding and
other desired species continue to establish with in them, the Division does not find these inclusions overly
concerning. The operator needs to continue to monitor these patches and assure that they do not start to spread or
erode.
REVEGETATION—Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover;Timing:
Seneca Property,LLC has broadcast permanent seed mix on the area formerly housing the office trailers
north of Pond 10. This area had been treated for noxious weed infestation of jointed goatgrass. Reseeding of the
treated area is an acceptable weed management method. The operator seeded other small patches throughout the
reclaimed area that had previously been identified for weed management.
SLIDES and DAMAGE-Rule 4.12:
See discussion of slump feature on Access road LU3-A in"Roads"Section of this report.
SIGNS AND MARKERS—Rule 4.02:
The operator continues to update mine identification signs throughout the permit boundary. The main
Mine ID sign at the north entrance road has been adequately updated. The signs at the Pond 013 and Pond 012
gates have been updated. There is an older out of date sign at Pond 012 gate that can be removed to avoid
conflicting information.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED NA
OTHER(SPECIFY)NA
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS/COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 4 of 7
